I pre-made for you two max files. One for quick shadow rendering (dillo type shadows) and one for the
final shadow render (The cool looking shadows). So this should be very easy for you, all you have
to do is insert your displacement map and texture map. When you open the files in max for the first time it will give
you two errors, don't worry about these. Max is just looking for the two files you will soon
insert.
There are many short cuts in max, due to the size of the toot i wont show
them all to you, I'll leave that up to you. First click the select by name tab
at the top then highlight Grid_Obj01, (this is selecting the plane where you'll insert
your displacement map soon). Then click ok.
Toward the top right click the modify tab. (It's the rainbow to the right of the arrow, or the second
tab from the left)
Now that your in the modify tab, look in the parameters/image/bitmap:
click the tap that says "Your displacement map here.tga" Then Load your displacement
map.tga Now you'll
be able to see your track in max.
(First pic below) open the material editor. (Second Pic Below) click the
tab that says your texture map here. (Third Pic below) Click again, the tab
that says your texture map here. Then load your texture map. it will
then be put on top of your displacement map. (remember everything's been pre-set for
you.
From here you can now close the material editor if you wish
. Click the render tab at the top an choose render. Now select
the File tab too the left of where it says your rendered texture map and
rename it to what you wish to call it. And, press save. At the
bottom click the render tab, sit back and watch it render.
Save your max file as whatever you wish. Next open Photoshop, we have to
crop away the black around the map
Open the rendered texture map and select the box tool.
the press control/+ to zoom in. I find 1200 to be fine. go to
the top left corner and begin to make a box around the texture
drag down then to the right until you box the entire map
Then click the image tab at the top and select crop, again, press the image tab
and select image size. resize it to the correct size for your use. 960 for nats and sx.
It's ready to be saved and loaded into the editor.
Well thats it. I hope this helps you. Just more proof, everything's
easy when you know how to do it. WWW_Kinged
